For Top Sector Logistics, we have developed a tool that calculates CO₂ and nitrogen emissions and supports sustainable choices. The Top Sector Logistics is a Dutch initiative to stimulate cooperation between (logistical) parties to innovate and make the sector more sustainable.
This includes the “Mobile Tools and Construction Logistics” program, in which parties share knowledge and innovation to solve joint problems, with the aim of achieving nitrogen and CO₂ reductions.

Unknown emission figures
Market parties have difficulty obtaining building permits for Land, Water and Road Projects. The most important bottleneck is nitrogen deposition and its impact on Natura 2000 areas. Concrete emission numbers are often not available during the award process.
Improper assignment of responsibility
The knowledge to calculate emissions often lies with the wrong party: clients must apply for permits, while the technical knowledge is executing parties site. This causes a skewed distribution of responsibilities.

To address these challenges, the Emissions forecaster developed: a user-friendly calculation tool that guides users step by step through the required input.
The calculation tool
- Calculations CO₂ and nitrogen emissions based on data from construction companies for:
- Use of mobile equipment at the construction site
- Transport to and from the construction site
- Simplifies it licensing process by results directly to AERIUS to be sent for deposition calculations
- Automatically provides users with calculated results and relevant documents
Simulations
- Makes it possible to create and compare scenarios with different equipment choices
- Gives clients insight into how their choices for equipment and transport affect total emissions
