A flexible questionnaire tool for Biotronik
Biotronik is a company that specializes in developing technologies and therapies for heart rhythm disorders. For example, they make pacemakers. For this project, we worked with the research department, where research is being done into the development of new pacemakers. Not all patients with a rhythm disorder benefit from existing pacemakers. Biotronik is researching the rhythm disorders of these patients to see if a suitable pacemaker can be developed for this in the future.

Easy data collection
This study collected a lot of quantitative data, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and more. Qualitative data had to be added: has the patient taken his medication and does the patient have complaints, for example. To make this data collection easier, there was the wish for a mobile app. This enabled the patient to answer the necessary questions himself on a daily basis. Quantitative data must then be linked to the patient's responses, in order to hopefully discover a pattern and provide appropriate therapy.
Flexible questionnaire configuration
We have developed a questionnaire application that allows the patient to answer questions about his complaints and therapy. The questionnaires used are fully configurable by Biotronik itself. Because the questionnaires can be set up entirely by yourself, they can also be used for other studies.
The questionnaire is conditional. This means that questions are based on previously given answers. Which question should be asked after which answer can also be configured by Biotronik.
To keep the patient motivated to complete the questionnaires, gamification strategies were used. For example, the application's home screen shows a “streak” (how many days in a row the patient has completed the questionnaire) and notifications are tailored to the patient's behavior.
